"House Party" is Our Song Of The Day by American
country music artist Sam Hunt . It was released to country radio
on June 1, 2015 as the third single from his debut studio album,
Montevallo (2014) via MCA Nashville .
Critical reception
The song received mixed to negative reviews from several critics.
In his review of the X2C EP, Josh Schott of Country Perspective
gave the song a very negative review, saying "it's another
generic, party pop song. What the hell is the point of this song or
this EP? Again, Sam Hunt, this is not a country song! Smash
Mouth made music with more substance than this." Trigger of
Saving Country Music also gave the song a negative review, rating
it "two guns way down" and saying "So no, I didn’t find Sam
Hunt’s 'House Party' particularly stimulating or culturally
gratifying. I would call this the worst country song ever, but even
that would endow it with a modicum of potential country music
affiliation that it is not qualified to carry. This is nothing more
than outdated electro-pop that country music should be wholly
embarrassed for even considering as part of its format, and
should violently spit out like a petulant toddler does something
unsavory forced into its mouth."
Taste of Country was more favorable, saying "This singer continues
to stretch the genre to the delight of some and the agony of
others. Acoustic guitar drives the beat in 'House Party,' while a
very country-sounding guitar lick works around his melodic,
syncopated lyrics. This is Hunt’s lightest single to date, as
well."

31 when Sam Hunt's debut EP X2C in which the song is a track
